27-Gauge Vitrectomy for Retinal Detachment Repair
- Video
- Published 2014
Surgeons need approach 27g instruments different from other vitrectomy systems, because they are more flexible and debulk the vitreous slower. During retinal detachment (RD) repair, however, the smaller tip allows a much closer shave of the periphery.
This video shows a demonstration of a RD repair using the Alcon 27g vitrectomy system (Alcon Manufacturing, Ltd, Fort Worth, TX) and an external illuminated indenter, allowing quick peripheral shaving.
